Kolkata, June 27: Major Left Front partner CPI today severely criticised the CPI(M) for taking “unilateral decisions” on important issues like land acquisition at Singur despite protests by other partners and said the LF should really work as a front and not be run as a single party affair.

CPI general secretary A B Bardhan addressing a press conference at the end of the party's three-day review session by the state council voiced displeasure at the unilateral functioning of the CPI-M in the erstwhile government ignoring opinions of other partners.

“Despite protests by Left Front partners, sanctions were given to the SEZ and chemical hubs (at Nandigram) and agricultural land was taken away from farmers for construction of the Tata Motors small car factory,” Bardhan said.

The veteran leader regretted that the LF did not intervene when there was unrest by labourers and farmers during land acquisition at Singur and no steps were taken to ‘appease' them.

Bardhan said the Left Front should function ‘appropriately' and ‘constructively' and should support correct steps of the government and oppose what is not in the interest of people.

He alleged that nearly 70 Left Front workers had been killed in post-poll violence and warned that the Front “will have to resist” the attacks. PTI
