New Delhi: Finally, Amit Shah has been elected as the new President of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).Today his election as BJP president has been ratified by BJP national council at its day long meet in New Delhi.Shah along with J P Nadda,were the front-runners for the president's post after Rajnath Singh joined the Narendra Modi led NDA government at the centre.The outgoing president Rajnath Singh made the announcement in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, L K Advani, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, Ram Lal and Anant Kumar.Amit Shah, in a sense, played the most crucial role in handing over a clear majority to Narendra Modi led BJP on its own. The BJP got 282 seats in 2014 Lok Sabha elections out of which 71 seats came from UP alone. The BJP's ally Apna Dal got two seats. So the BJP along with its ally Apna Dal got 73 seats from Uttar Pradesh. And Amit Shah was the master strategist for the party in the state.BJP had never got so many seats in UP, not even when Ram temple issue was at its peak in 1990s. It was Amit Shah who played the pivotal role in transforming a positive mood for Modi amongst the electorate into votes.The spectacular success of BJP in UP under Amit Shah's leadership had made Shah a front-runner for BJP President's post. The only thing that was going against Shah was the fact that like Narendra Modi, he also comes from the same state – Gujarat. They had both worked together in the past for the organization and share very cordial relation. Critics of BJP point out that the Muzaffarnagar communal riots created an anti-establishment sentiment that was fully exploited by the BJP under the guidance of Amit Shah. He is also accused of polarizing the voters on communal lines but Shah vehemently denies these allegations. Amit Shah said that may be he had said things in the heat of the moment. EC took a lenient view of Amit Shah statement and lifted the ban that it had imposed on his addressing rallies in the state. This created another political controversy as the EC did not lift the ban on UP minister and senior SP leader Azam Khan who had also made provocative speeches in the run-up to the general elections. Azam Khan went to the extent of accusing EC of being partial to Amit Shah. The CBI says Tulsi Prajapati was a witness in the Sohrabuddin case and that his killing was part of a larger conspiracy in which Mr Shah, as the then head of the state administration, was involved.Amit Shah's name has also cropped up in the ‘Gujarat snoopgate'. In this case, Amit Shah is alleged to have ordered the surveillance of a woman on the instructions of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.Amit Shah with late Gopinath Munde and Narendra ModiImmediately after Narendra Modi was made the chairman of BJP's central election management committee at Goa meet, Amit Shah was made the state in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, the most crucial state for BJP's 2014 scheme of things.It is believed that Narendra Modi got Amit Shah appointed the in-charge of UP because he knows that his dream of occupying 10, Janpath can't materialize unless BJP performs spectacularly in UP which has 80 Lok Sabha seats.Amit Shah's father Anilchandra Shah was wealthy businessman.Amit Shah holds a bachelor's degree in Bio-chemistry .Amit Shah was a swayamsevak of RSS and was also a member of ABVP.Shah worked as a stock-broker for some time during which period he joined the BJP and came close to the party patriarch L K Advani.Amit Shah managed several of Advani's election campaigns of Gandhinagar.Amit was the youngest chairman of the Gujarat State Finance Corporation Ltd.Amit Shah was also appointed as the chairman of Ahmedabad Cooperation Bank.In 2003, BJP won a second term in Gujarat and Amit Shah was inducted as the youngest minister in Modi cabinet.Very soon, Amit Shah emerged as the right hand man of Modi.And today, Amit Shah is considered as the alter ego of BJP's prime ministerial candidate.With Amit Shah as the BJP president , Narendra Modi will have complete control over the BJP and this will further boost his image as the man who believes in getting things done as per his wish.
