New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata party faced a major defeat in Bihar State election with JD(U) , RJD and Congress clinching a whopping 178 out of 243 assembly seats.

Here are 8 reasons behind BJP's stunning defeat in BIhar Polls

1) BJP allies have performed poorly in the elections. LJP which contested on 40 seats got only 2 seats. Similarly RLSP contesting on 23 seats earned only 3 seats and HAM chief and former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi won the lone seat of the 21 seats his party contested.

2) The intemperate language of some of the  BJP leaders e.g. Yogi Aditya Nath, Girraj Singh, Sakshi Maharaj seems to have backfired.

3) RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's quota remark seems to have gone against BJP  alliance. Moreover VK Singh's dog remark further added fuel to the fire.

4) One of the reasons of BJP defeat could be its failure to project CM candidate .

5) Nitish Kumar's communication strategist Prashant Kishore is a clear winner here. He aptly exploited  PM's DNA remark to Nitish's favour. He was also the brain behind Nitish's  Bihari vs Bahari slogan that seems to have worked wonders for the grand allaince.

6) BJP also failed to present a united front as disgruntled leaders Shatrughan Sinha, RK Singh publically  expressed their disappointment over  party's decisions.

7) The Congress, which has revived its fortunes in the state with 27 seats ,also played a critical role in consolidating anti-BJP votes by coming together with Grand alliance.

8) The backward votes and Muslims vote have rallied in favour of the grand alliance as Owaisi'All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) also failed to make any significant impact in the polarisation of votes.
