New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday demanded that the Modi government should reduce excise duty by Rs 10 per litre.

"Centre had hiked excise duty by Rs 10 and reduced it by only Rs 2.50. This is cheating. Modi government should reduce excise by Rs 10," he tweeted.

The government on Thursday cut petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.50 per litre. The cut will be achieved by slashing excise duty to the tune of Rs 1.50 per litre. The remaining Rs 1 will be absorbed by the oil marketing companies (OMCs).

Immediately after the Centre’s decision, many state governments also reduced the price.
