New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to kick-start BJP’s campaign in Assam today with a jam packed schedules of 5 rallies in Tinsukia, Majuli, Bihpuria, Bokakhat and Jorhat.

Modi will become the first Prime Minister to visit Majuli, an island located in between river Brahmaputra and Lohit. The party’s chief ministerial candidate and Union Minister Sarbanand Sonowal is contesting from the Majuli seat. Polling in Majhuli will take place in the first phase of voting on April 4.

The Election Commission has announced two-phase voting for the 14th Assam assembly elections on April 4 and 11. The votes will be counted on May 19.

Prime Minister Modi’s Assam campaign comes in stark contrast to his massive 40 rallies in Bihar. Modi will also address election rallies at two places on Sunday.

The BJP yesterday released party's 'vision document' for the upcoming elections in the state. The BJP Assam Vision Document 2016-2025 promised to work closely with the Centre for ‘complete sealing of the Indo-Bangladesh border in the state’ if voted to power.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has given its permission to the Prime Minister's 'Mann ki Baat' radio broadcast tomorrow with instructions that the programme should adhere to the Model Code of Conduct in force due to the Assembly polls in five states.

On the other hand, Congress sources said that party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi will soon visit the state to campaign for party candidates.
