Chandigarh: Ahead of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's three day visit to Punjab, AAP MLA from Mehrauli, Naresh Yadav has been booked for his alleged role in the desecration of Quran in Punjab's Malerkotla.
Though Yadav has vehemently denied the charge, Sangrur police claimed they have enough proof to link him with the three men arrested in the case: Vijay Kumar, Gaurav and the latter’s father Nand Kishore.
According to Police, the alleged mastermind in the case, Vijay Kumar, told them that he had “desecrated” the Quran at the behest of Yadav, and was offered Rs 1 crore.
During raids in Delhi, the police had also recovered an Audi car belonging to Vijay Kumar in which more “torn pages” of the Quran were allegedly found, according to an Indian Express report.
Vijay Kumar also claimed police that Yadav had told them that the motive was to create communal tension in Punjab and instigate people against the state government.
The police also said that they will be seeking an arrest warrant for Yadav from the court.
On June 25, Punjab’s Muslim-dominated town of Malerkotla witnessed violence after an alleged incident of desecration of holy book, the Quran.
People burnt vehicles and damaged property after apparently torn pages of the holy book were found in a cemetery.
