London/Islamabad, Sep 25: A Pakistan airlines jet with 273 people onboard, flying from Toronto to Karachi, on Saturday made an emergency landing in Stockholm following a bomb threat and a suspect was detained, officials said.  The Boeing 777 of Pakistan International Airlines was diverted to land after Canadian authorities received a tip that a man on the plane was carrying explosives.

The airliner landed at Stockholm's Arlanda airport and was taxied and parked at a ramp away from the terminals and Swedish police told the passengers to evacuate.  They then boarded the aircraft to search for explosives and later removed a suspect, believed to be a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, media reports said.  "We have detained a suspect," Swedish police said.  "He (suspect) is not on any list (of people banned from flying) and he's been through the security check in Canada," said Janne Hedlund, a spokesman for the local police.

The plane was on its way from Toronto to Karachi, Pakistan, when the pilot requested permission to land in Stockholm, Arlanda airport spokesman Anders Bredfell said. The airport remained open to air traffic.  In Pakistan, a spokesman for state-run PIA confirmed the incident involved flight PK782 to Karachi.  "The plane has landed at the Stockholm airport due to security reasons," airline spokesman Sultan Hassan was quoted as saying by the Dawn.
