Cairo: Egypt's deposed president has defiantly told the court that he is the country's “legitimate” leader and it has no jurisdiction to try him.
In Monday's trial, Mohamed Morsy made his first public appearance since the military coup that ousted him on July 3. The trial was then adjourned until Jan. 8 to allow defense lawyers to review documents.
Since his ouster, Mr Morsy has been held at a secret military location. He was flown by helicopter to the trial venue a police academy in an eastern Cairo district.
If convicted, Mr Morsy and 14 other defendants in the case could face the death penalty.
