New Delhi: The Australian city Sydney was shocked when a gunman entered Lindt café in downtown and held around 30 people hostage.

The assailant has been identified as Man Haron Monis.

Man Haron Monis held 30 people hostage in Lindt Café for nearly 17 hours. His hostages also included two Indians - Shri Puspendu Ghosh and an Infosys employee Ankireddi Viswakanth.

Man Haron Monis moved to Australia from Iran in 1996 and changed his name here as Man Haron Monis.

Calling himself a self-styled sheikh, self-employed spiritual adviser and astrologer, Man Haron Monis is not a new name for the police of Australia.

He has been charged for the brutal murder of his ex-wife Noleen Hayson Pal in November 2013.

Man Haron Monis hit the headlines in 2009 after he was accused of sending hate mails to the families of Australian soldiers who died in Afghanistan.

Although he was acquitted that time as he called himself a peace activist.

This assailant has also been accused of molesting seven women in April, while was charged for 40 other cases of molestation in October this year.
