New Delhi: The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency of the United States is on its way to bring a new X-Plane that combines the high-speed characteristics of fixed-wing aircraft with the hover capability of helicopters.

This new experimental aircraft, combines the best of vertical take-off and landing technology with conventional aircraft.

The project announced early in 2013, has a budget of  $150 million for developing the X-Plane.

The major added feature of the X-Plane will be the ability to go from take-off to arrival much, much faster:

The project has set a performance standard at greater than 300 knots, or almost twice as fast as a state-of-the-art helicopter can go today.
