London, Feb 1: The Al Qaeda has vowed a series of terror strikes against Britain over London's involvement in a French-led operation against Islamist rebels in Mali.

The Sun said it was the first direct threat of revenge against Britain since Prime Minister David Cameron sanctioned military help for France.

Cameron also signed a "security partnership" with Mali's neighbour Algeria following the hostage crisis masterminded by wanted terrorist Mokhtar Belmokhtar.

Britain is sending 40 soldiers to Mali to assist in training local troops to combat the Al Qaeda.

The vow for vengeance was seen in an extremist website used by the Al Qaeda.

A man, identified as "Lover of Islam", said: "The attacks will be earth-shattering, shocking and terrifying."

The Sun earlier said Cameron would ask Algeria to let secret service MI6 hunt down Belmokhtar.

The one-eyed Belmokhtar masterminded the siege on a desert gas field in Algeria two weeks ago.

Algeria rejected Britain's offer of help during the hostage crisis, which saw the death of 38 foreigners including six Britons.
