New Delhi: The Google India Zeitgeist tracks the year's major events and trends based on Google searches conducted in the country.BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi emerged the leader in the most searched news category (as well as politicians category), followed by BlackBerry phones, Rahul Dravid, Saina Nehwal and Vijay Mallya.Here is the list of top 10 most searched news events in 2013:1. PM Candidature of Narendra Modi The BJP has finally declared Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate on September 13 this year.Modi has already become a national icon for those Indians who want aggressive modernization to be complemented by a robust, no-nonsense administration. He could emerge as India's Vladimir Putin. 2. Blackberry Sale Blackberry sale is the most searched news on google in 2013. The company considered selling its business in September. However, in November, BlackBerry announced it is abandoning the sale process. 3. Rahul Dravid Retirement Batting great Rahul Dravid, the second most prolific batsman in the game's history and India's middle order bulwark for years, bid adieu to Test cricket in 2012, bringing down the curtains on a glorious 16-year career. This news was among the most searched on google in 2013. 4. Saina Nehwal Although 2013 has not been a great one for the badminton star Sania Sehwal but she managed to be in the fourth most searched person. The Barring her brilliant show in the inaugural Indian Badminton League (IBL) which helped Hyderabad Hotshots clinch the title, Saina did not do much this year. Saina Nehwal drops two places to World No. 8 in badminton rankings. 5. Vijay Mallya Kingfisher Airlines Vijay Mallya's high-profile stake sale in United Spirits Ltd (USPL) to Diageo suffered a setback with the Karnataka High Court annulling it in response to a winding-up petition by the creditors of the holding company United Breweries (Holdings) Ltd or UBHL.The airlines was grounded in October 2012 and its accumulated losses have ballooned to over Rs. 16,000 crore. 6. The cost of the Hewlett- Packard laptops is Rs. 19,000 and come with stickers of the chief minister and his father, Mulayam Singh, who heads the Samajwadi Party.
