Odisha: Five police personnel killed, three injured as trailer hits patrol vehicle

The tragedy took place on early Sunday morning as a trailer hit a police vehicle. Five police personnel lost their lives, while three were injured. The injured were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

In a major tragedy, five police personnel lost their lives, while three got critically injured after a trailer hit their patrol vehicle in Odisha on Sunday morning. The incident took place near Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station on National Highway 49 when a speeding trailer hit the vehicle. 

Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra informed about the tragedy. The SP further stated that the injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Speaking on the incident, DM Chavan Kunal Motiram stated that the authorities will investigate the matter and take necessary steps. "Today, a tragic incident occurred in Jharsuguda in which we lost 5 police personnel. We will investigate why this incident happened and ensure that necessary steps are taken so that such incidents do not occur in the future," Motiram said as quoted by news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathy also expressed grief over the accident, stating that the government will extend its support in the funeral rites. "This is a very unfortunate and tragic incident. No one ever expects such an event. Such a tragic incident, the death of five police officers in an accident, is certainly heartbreaking and tragic... The government will strive to ensure that their funeral rites are conducted, that their families face no further difficulties, and that they receive the fullest support from the government. We will certainly make every effort to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future," Tripathy said.
