Muzaffarnagar, UP, Aug 9: In an example of medieval justice, a panchayat here on Monday issued a diktat asking the sister of a youth to be married to the brother of a girl who had eloped with the youth.
All this happened in the presence of police.
Chander, a resident of Babri police station complained that his daughter has eloped with one Vinod, resident of Sonepat after a love affair. He also complained to the local panchayat.
The panchayat decided that Vinod's sister be married to the brother of Chander's son.
Vinod's family has agreed to the marriage, villagers said.
