New Delhi: As 67 per cent of Delhi's voters exercised their franchise on Wednesday, many voters complained that their names were missing from the electoral rolls.

A large number of voters complained that when they went to exercise their franchise in their polling stations,  they had to return as their names were not there on the electoral rolls.

Polling officials and voters in Chittaranjan Park, Sunder Nagri, Mundka, Malviya Nagar and Sheikh Sarai said there were several such instances, but instant redressal was not possible.

Chandra Singh, Ram Kumar, Sushila Devi at Gole Market polling station in New Delhi constituency complained that they had voter I-cards, but their names did not exist on the list.

In several constituencies of East and North East districts, voters felt harassed as they had to run from one polling officer's desk to another at different polling booths in search of their names.

From Krishna Nagar Naseen turned up with his wife Samina but  they were disappointed at not being able to cast their votes. Dr Harsh Vardhan,  BJP chief ministerial candidate is contesting from Krishna Nagar.

In Muslim-dominated areas like Brajpuri and Khureji Khas in Krishna Nagar constituency, residents were annoyed and had heated arguments with poll duty officials for not being allowed to vote.

Residents of Gandhi Nagar, Kondli, Patparganj and Trilokpuri also faced the same issues.

The election office had issued advertisements in media requesting voters to get their names checked on the voting list, Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev said. The voters could have got their names included had they checked the voters list in time, he said.

It is the duty of the voters to get their names included in the list, as sufficient time was given to them.
