New Delhi, Dec 13 (PTI) Delhi Police will file a chargesheet in the case of gangrape of a call-centre employee here within a month and seek the setting up of a fast track court to try five youths arrested in this incident.
This was disclosed by city Police Commissioner B K Gupta after an emergency meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to discuss the security of women in the capital.
"We will file the chargesheet within 30 days. We will request the Law Department to constitute a fast track court on the lines of those in Rajasthan for early disposal of the case," Gupta told reporters.
Noting that the early disposal of the case would act as a deterrent, the top cop said that the investigators would argue for maximum punishment for the culprits. "This will also act as a deterrent against committing such heinous crimes." The meeting came against the backdrop of a series of abduction and gangrape of young women in the past few months, which led to a public outrage and raised questions over safety of women in the country's capital city.
"We discussed the entire situation. We finalised several measures to make women feel secure in the state. What government can do, we will do. We are concerned about the incidents, so is the police. We have to end this atmosphere of panic," Dikshit said.
Gupta said the Operation Black Rose, a standard operation procedure to be adopted during emergency situations, will be done every 15 days to check the preparedness of the force.
He also said NGOs will be asked to link themselves to police stations. "We will seek their help in identifying
vulnerable areas and colonies in the capital. They can suggest police on measures to avoid such incidents," he said.
Gupta said there will meetings every three months with NGOs. "We will also deploy English-speaking personnel for women's helpline," he added. PTI
