Low-cost airline SpiceJet moved the Supreme Court on Thursday, challenging a Delhi High Court verdict grounding three of its aircraft engines for defaulting on payments to lessors. A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud asked the counsel for the airline to send an e-mail seeking an urgent hearing of its plea against the high court verdict of September 11.

The anti-corruption vigilance sleuths arrested a cement manufacturing company executive on charge of inducing a district collector to receive bribe, an official release said. As per the information received, one person had been to the office of Bargarh Collector, Aditya Goyal to meet him on Wednesday. "During the visit, he offered him a flower bouquet and a sweet packet. Suspecting the packet, the Collector directed his peon to open the packet, in which four bundles of Rs 500 currency notes were found," the release said.

Five people, including a child, died instantly when the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near Chidambaram in the district on Thursday, said police. They were proceeding to Mayiladuthurai from Chennai when the lorry hit their vehicle killing all five occupants early today. The lorry driver and cleaner fled the spot, they said.

European Union regulators said they are looking into one of Google's artificial intelligence models over concerns about its compliance with the bloc's strict data privacy rules. Ireland's Data Protection Commission said it has opened an inquiry into Google's Pathways Language Model 2, also known as PaLM2. It's part of wider efforts, including by other national watchdogs across the 27-nation bloc, to scrutinize how AI systems handle personal data.
