    Retired head constable shoots himself dead in UP's Jalaun: Police

    A retired head constable allegedly committed suicide here on Wednesday by shooting himself with a rifle, police in this Uttar Pradesh district said. Shyamacharan Chaturvedi shot himself with his licensed rifle around 8 am, Circle Officer Santosh Kumar said.

    According to the police, Chaturvedi was upset over an altercation between his son and their neighbours. The wife of the deceased has alleged that the police did not pay heed to his complaint about the neighbours.

    Thirteen injured as vehicle overturns in Fatehpur

    A tractor-trolley overturned in Jahanabad area here, leaving 13 people injured, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Tuesday night when villagers were returning after attending a function at a temple in Kanpur, SHO, Jahanabad, Rakesh Kumar Pandey, said.

    The vehicle was carrying over 30 people, he said adding, five of the injured are in a critical condition and have been admitted to a hospital in Kanpur.

    Army officer commits suicide in Srinagar

    A senior Indian army officer allegedly committed suicide in an army depot on the outskirts of Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar city on Wednesday.

    Police sources said Lt. Colonel Sudesh Baghat Singh shot himself dead with his service rifle in an army depot in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar city.

    Nagpur: 10-year-old run over by train

    A ten-year-old boy was run over by a train while collecting cow dung on railway tracks in Kalamna area near here, police said on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Surya Doman Madhukar, a resident of Vijaya Nagar slum.

    The boy was hit by a speeding train when he was collecting cow dung on the tracks. He was declared brought dead at hospital. The boy''s parents are natives of Chhattisgarh and work as labourers. A case of accidental death was registered by Kalamna police.

    5 Naxalites held with arms in Jharkhand

    The police on Tuesday arrested five Naxalites of two outfits from Chatra district of Jharkhand and seized arms and ammunition from them, an officer said.

    They used to extort contractors and businessmen, Sub- Divisional Police Officer of Chatra Avinash Kumar said.

    Of the arrested five, three are members of the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) while the two others belong to the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI).

    Neera Tanden withdraws her nomination as White House budget chief

    In a major setback to US President Joe Biden, Indian-American Neera Tanden on Tuesday withdrew her nomination as Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, after the ruling party and the administration failed to muster enough votes in the Senate to secure her confirmation.

    Tanden, 50, had been facing a tough time for the confirmation of her nomination over her past Twitter outbursts against several lawmakers, including those from her own Democratic Party. Biden accepted her withdrawal and indicated that Tanden might be brought in the administration in some other capacity.
