    Congress flays BJP over painting 'Viveka' classrooms in saffron

    The Congress in Karnataka on Tuesday hit out at the BJP for its decision to paint thousands of ‘Viveka’ classrooms in saffron by saying the ruling party leaders should first have their houses painted in that colour. “Let the BJP which wants to paint the schools with saffron colour answer these questions. Why haven’t the BJP leaders painted their cars and homes with saffron colour? Why they did not even paint the compound wall of their houses with saffron colour? Let them colour their houses with saffron and then go to paint the schools,” the Congress Karnataka unit tweeted.

    Gujarat HC judge recuses himself from hearing regular bail plea of Teesta Setalvad

    Gujarat High Court judge Justice Samir Dave on Tuesday recused himself from hearing the regular bail plea of activist Teesta Setalvad in connection with a case of the alleged fabrication of evidence to frame innocent people concerning the 2002 Gujarat riots. When the matter came up for hearing before Justice Samir Dave, he said "not before me," but didn't assign any reason.

    Delhi: Many students at St Stephen's college asked to withdraw admission after third round of seat allotment

    According to media reports, several students who secured admissions at St. Stephens college in Delhi were asked to withdraw after they were DU began its third round of seat allotment. The students were later allotted a different college. This happened a week after the classes had started at St. Stephens. However, students reportedly said that even after they were allotted the college they had not paid the fees as the DU refrained them from doing so. The university asked them to wait for the payment.

    A one-year-old boy has died of measles in Mumbai amid the outbreak of the viral infection in the city where 126 children have contracted the disease so far this year, civic officials said on Tuesday.     Rupee gains 14 paise to 81.14 against US dollar

    The rupee appreciated 14 paise to 81.14 against the American currency in early trade on Tuesday on positive domestic macroeconomic data and easing crude oil prices. Forex traders said sustained foreign fund inflows also supported the local unit. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 81.18 against the dollar, then gained further ground to touch 81.14, registering a rise of 14 paise over its previous close.

    ONGC Sept qtr profit drops 30% to Rs 12,826 cr as govt levies windfall tax

    Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) reported a 30 per cent fall in net profit for the September quarter after the government levied a windfall tax to take away gains arising from a spurt in international oil and gas prices. Net profit of Rs 12,825.99 crore, or Rs 10.20 a share, in July-September 2022-23 is compared with Rs 18,347.73 crore, or Rs 14.58 per share net profit in the same period a year back, the company said in a statement.
