The rupee appreciated 14 paise to 81.14 against the American currency in early trade on Tuesday on positive domestic macroeconomic data and easing crude oil prices. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) reported a 30 per cent fall in net profit for the September quarter after the government levied a windfall tax to take away gains arising from a spurt in international oil and gas prices. Net profit of Rs 12,825.99 crore, or Rs 10.20 a share, in July-September 2022-23 is compared with Rs 18,347.73 crore, or Rs 14.58 per share net profit in the same period a year back, the company said in a statement.

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday voted in favour of a resolution calling for the creation of a repatriation and a remedy mechanism for damages created by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.A total of 94 countries voted in favour of the resolution while 14 voted against it. As many as 73 nations, including India, abstained.

Police here have exhumed the remains of a man, who was allegedly killed by his wife and her paramour four years ago, officials said on Monday. The man's body was buried in the house owned by his wife's lover, they said. Victim Chandravir alias Papoo, a native of Sikrod village here, had gone missing on September 28, 2018, after which a case was registered at Sihani Gate police station.
