    HP rains: Over 50 stranded people rescued, bridge connecting Baddi-Pinjore washed away

    More than 50 people were stranded in Mandi district following a cloudburst and have been rescued by the National Disaster Response Force, officials said on Friday. The cloudburst took place in Shehnu Gouni village on Thursday and also triggered a landslide that blocked roads at several places.

    SBI launches Aadhaar-based enrolment for social security schemes

    The country's largest lender State Bank of India on Friday introduced a facility to allow customers to enrol in social security schemes by just furnishing an Aadhaar card. SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara unveiled the new feature -- which will be available at the bank's Customer Service Points (CSPs) -- that aims to make the process of enrolling in various social security schemes simpler.

    3 bird species declined rapidly in Delhi in last 30 years: Report

    Three bird species -- Common Babbler, Brown Rock Chat and White Browed Wagtail -- have declined rapidly in Delhi over the three decades, a new report says. Common Babbler numbers have dipped by 81 per cent, Brown Rock Chat by 65 per cent and White Browed Wagtail by 85 per cent during this period, according to the "State of India's Birds" report released on Friday.

    Atishi questions finance dept over delay in release of funds to 12 DU colleges

    Delhi minister Atishi has questioned the finance department over the nearly "one-and-a-half-month delay" in the release of Rs 100 crore to 12 fully funded colleges of DU by the city government.  In a note, she said that the fund was approved in June but it has not reached the colleges.

    Defence ministry inks Rs 19,000 crore contract with HSL for 5 fleet support ships

    The defence ministry on Friday sealed a Rs 19,000 crore deal with Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) for acquisition of five fleet support ships for the Indian Navy. The ships of 44,000 tons category will be the first of its kind to be built in India by an Indian shipyard, officials said.
