Union Health Secretary reviews vaccination status
Union Health Secretary reviewed the status of COVID vaccination with Health Secretaries & NHM MDs of States and UTs, through a video conference today. It was pointed that there is a huge scope for improvement in number of average vaccinations per session. The importance of timely data reconciliation was also emphasized upon during the detailed review meeting. J&K: Pak violates ceasefire along IB in Kathua
The Pakistani army has violated the ceasefire again by resorting to unprovoked firing along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, officials said on Saturday.
The firing from across the border started around 10.10 pm on Friday in the Bobiyaan border outpost area of Hiranagar sector, prompting an effective retaliation by the Border Security Force (BSF), the officials said.
They said the cross-border firing between the two sides continued till 3 am but there was no report of any damage on the Indian side.

16 Naxals surrender in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district
At least 16 Naxals, two of them carrying cash rewards on their heads, surrendered before police and CRPF officials in Chhattisgarh''s Dantewada district on Saturday, an official said.
The lower-rung cadres, who were active in Bacheli and Kirandul areas of the district, surrendered in Kirandul town, citing that they were impressed by the rehabilitation drive ''Lon Varratu'' and disappointed with the "hollow" Maoist ideology, Dantewada superintendent of police Abhishek Pallava said.
With this, 288 Naxals have so far quit violence in the district under the ''Lon Varratu'' (return to your home/village) campaign, launched in June last year, the official said.

UP: 25-year-old woman killed for dowry in Ballia
A 25-year-old woman was allegedly killed for dowry in Athilapur village here, police said on Saturday. Sanjana Singh was married to Amlesh Singh of Athilapur village in February last year and ever since, she was allegedly being harassed for dowry, SHO, Rasra Kotwali Police Station Saurav Rai said quoting the complaint of the victim's father, Parmatma Singh.

Body of 6-year-old boy found in UP's Lalitpur
The body of a six-year-old boy, missing for last two days, was found in an agricultural field in Davni village under Jakhlon Police Station area here, police said on Saturday. Ansh was playing outside his home on Thursday morning when he went missing, Circle Officer (city) Keshavnath said, adding that the body was recovered on Friday. The boy was hit on the face and head with a heavy object and the body was hidden in the field, the CO said.
A couple living in the neighbourhood has been detained for questioning, he added. However, the victim''s father alleged that the couple killed his son while performing an occult ritual. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and investigations are on, police said.

Odisha hikes monthly stipend of house surgeons in state-run hospitals by Rs 8,000
The Odisha government on Saturday hiked the monthly stipend of house surgeons in various state-run medical colleges and hospitals by Rs 8,000, an official notification said.
The house surgeons will now get Rs 28,000 as a stipend. They were wearing black badges at work since January 22 to press for their demand. The hike will remain in effect from January 1 this year for the next three years.

Gandhi was shot dead on this day in 1948 by Nathuram Godse. His death anniversary is observed as Martyrs' Day.

Assam Rifles & Customs Dept seize heroin worth Rs 29.60 lakh
Assam Rifles and Customs department have seized heroin worth Rs 29.60 lakh from Mizoram's Champhai district and apprehended a Myanmarese
national in connection with the seizure, an official said.
The contraband was seized during a joint operation at Zote village in Champhai district on the Indo-Myanmar border on Friday, the official said. A Myanmarese national has been arrested for possessing the contraband, he said.
