US population center trending toward South this decade
The US population center is on track this decade to take a southern swerve for the first time in history, and it's because of people like Owen Glick, who moved from California to Florida more than a year ago.
Last year, the South outgrew other US regions by well over 1 million people through births outpacing deaths and domestic and international migration, according to population estimates from the US Census Bureau.

MP: A day after four persons died in an abandoned coal mine, three more bodies recovered
A day after four persons died on entering an abandoned underground coal mine in Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh, three more bodies were recovered from the facility on Saturday, a police official said.
The four men had entered the mine in Dhanpuri, some 28 kilometres from the district headquarters, allegedly with the intention to collect coal or scrap and died after inhaling toxic gas, police had said on Friday.

Police say 3 dead, 4 hurt in latest California shooting
At least three people were killed and four others were wounded in a shooting in California area early Saturday morning. Sgt. Frank Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the shooting happened just after 2:30 a.m. in Beverly Crest, an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood. Of the seven people who were shot, four were standing outside. The three who were killed were in a vehicle.

CBI books imposter posing as IAS officer in PMO
The CBI has registered a case against one Ankit Kumar Singh for allegedly impersonating a secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) handling the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency and seeking favours from senior government officials. The federal agency acted on a complaint from Assistant Director in PMO Anil Kumar Sharma, officials said.

7 arrested in Bengaluru for smuggling endangered animals
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested seven passengers, including a woman, for allegedly smuggling 18 endangered animals in their baggage at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru a few days ago. Initially, three people were arrested.
Their interrogation resulted in the arrest of four more people, the DRI said in a statement on Friday.

Camera captures night sky spiral after SpaceX rocket launch
A camera atop Hawaii's tallest mountain has captured what looks like a spiral swirling through the night sky. Researchers believe it shows the aftereffects of a SpaceX rocket launch when the company's Falcon 9 rocket sent a GPS satellite into orbit. The images were captured on January 18 by a camera at the summit of Mauna Kea outside the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan's Subaru telescope.

5 killed in shooting near Jerusalem synagogue
At least five people were killed and as many sustained injuries in a shooting at a synagogue in Jerusalem’s Neve Yaakov, police and rescue services have said. The shooting took place on Friday evening in the northern part of East Jerusalem, they said. "The terrorist arrived by car at a building used as a synagogue in the neighbourhood in the northern part of East Jerusalem and opened fire," police said.

2 dead, 2 missing as rain pounds New Zealand's biggest city
Police on Saturday said two people had died and two more were missing as torrential rain caused widespread disruption to New Zealand's largest city. Authorities declared a state of emergency for the Auckland region and the nation's new Prime Minister, Chris Hipkins, was flying to the city on a military plane to assess the damage. Hipkins was sworn in to the top job on Wednesday after Jacinda Ardern resigned.
