New Delhi: Having sex is one of the most important activities in a person's life. While love making helps strengthening the bond with your partner, it also helps to keep the spark alive in your relationship.

But did you know that indulging in self-love, i.e. masturbation, is equally or maybe even more important than having sex?

Surprised?

Well, it's true. There have been several rumours about masturbation saying that it can result in hairy palms, infertility and even blindness. However, two YouTube science vloggers have revealed the truth about masturbation.

Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown, who run the educational ASAPScience YouTube channel, say that self-love or masturbation not only makes you feel happy and healthy, it also improves fertility.

Reportedly, according to the vloggers, masturbation releases chemicals including dopamine, which triggers the pleasure centres of the brain and reduces stress, endorphins which reduce pain - including menstrual pain in women - and prolactin, which aids sleep.

While Mitchell and Gregory posted a video explaining how masturbation is good for health, they also mentioned that the process of self-love is more beneficial for men as it helps prevent prostate cancer, one of the most common cancers in men.

Masturbation flushes out the carcinogenic toxins in the prostate more regularly, reducing the chances of prostate cancer and also increasing the production of bacteria-fighting white blood cells.

The vloggers also reportedly stated that although masturbating shortly before having sex lowers the sperm count, it does improve the quality of sperm as older sperm are expelled to make way for younger sperm, which are more likely to fertilise an egg.

However, they also mentioned that one should change the way of masturbation every once in a while as using one method for long periods of time can increase your dependence on it and make you less likely to be able to orgasm during sex.
