International Yoga Day 2018 Celebrations LIVE Updates

LIVE UPDATES for International Yoga Day 2018 Celebrations: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed 50,000 attendees at fourth International Yoga Day in Dehradun today. The day came into inception after United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared a day of Yoga. PM Modi had suggested 21st June to be celebrated as International Day of Yoga while addressing UN in 2014. In 2017, PM Modi participated in the event and practised Yoga along with 51,000 participants in Lucknow. The day was celebrated with unparalleled zeal around the world including New York, China, Ireland and Athens.

This year, the entire nation rolled out Yoga mats to celebrate International Yoga Day 2018. PM Modi performed Yoga with 55,000 enthusiasts in Dehradun at an event organised by Forest Research Institute.  In Delhi, eight events took place in different parts of the city including Raj Ghat and Lodhi Garden.

Ahead of the Yoga day, the prime minister posted a video on his Twitter handle giving a message that yoga is a “passport” to health assurance and not just a set of exercises that keep the body fit.

“Yoga is the journey from ‘me’ to ‘we’. It promises balance, calm, helps boost concentration and gives immense strength. As we approach the #4thYogaDay, I urge people around the world to make Yoga a part of their lives (sic),” Modi had tweeted.

11.30 am: Popular actor Rajeev Khandelwal tweeted a picture of himself doing Yoga


11.15 am: Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet practiced Yoga, tweeted a picture

11am: Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs, wished the country on Yoga Day and tweeted a picture


10am: Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were seen performing Surya Namasker at 18000 altitude on the occasion of 4th International Yoga Day in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh region on Thursday. 

9.45am: As the International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the world today, renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sculpture to honour this initiative. "I've shown world's top leaders like US President, Chinese President, Russian President, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Hon PM @narendramodi with their country flags," wrote Mr Pattnaik, a Padma Shri Awardee, on Twitter about 2 hours ago, sharing a picture of his impressive artwork.

9am: NDMC celebrated International Yoga Day at Lodhi Garden, Delhi. Children performed Yoga in the misty morning today. India TV Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma was the Chief Guest at the event.

8.30 am: International wrestler and motivational speaker Sangram Singh celebrated International Yoga Day with an inspiring tweet.

8:00 am: Yoga Day celebrations in Dehradun has come to an end and, PM Modi is seen greeting thousands of attendees.

7: 20 am: Maharashtra Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao performs yoga at Raj Bhavan .

7:10 am: PM Modi starts performing yoga in Dehradun.

7: 05 am: PM Modi said that Yoga was the perfect solution to the problems we face every day and that the way to lead a calm life is yoga adding that it helps in defeating anxiety.

6: 35 am: The honourable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has arrived in Dehradun to perform Yoga. Modi takes part in a yoga event in Dehradun’s FRI, as people across the world celebrated the 4th International Yoga Day today.

It was after PM Modi's address to the UN General Assembly on 27 September 2014, that the UN unanimously adopted June 21st as International Day of Yoga.

PM Modi, who is to lead an estimated 50,000 volunteers today in Dehradun to mark the fourth International Yoga Day celebrations, greeted people on the occasion. 

6: 20 am: Swami Ramdev teaches yoga asanas in Rajasthan Kota and, is all set to create several world records with yoga enthusiasts across India. Acharya Balkrishna and CM Vasundhara Raje also join the Yog Guru in performing yoga. 

6:00 am: Union minister Smriti Irani is the chief guest at the International Yoga Day event in Chandigarh on June 21.

5: 30 am:  Yog Guru Swami Ramdev begin the celebrations in Kota. 

5: 25 am: The Indian Embassy in Japan celebrated International Yoga Day 2018 on 19 June at the Japanese Parliament. The session was organized by the Embassy of India Tokyo and the Parliamentary League for Promotion of Yoga in Japan, in association with major Yoga organizations in Japan including the Yoga Organization of Japan, Art of Living, Patanjali Yoga among others.

5: 20 am: Peru celebrated International Day of Yoga at the Sacred City of Caral.


5: 15 am:  Twitter is all geared up to celebrate International Yoga Day in full swing.

5: 10 am: The Chief Minister of Vasundhara Raje attends Yoga camp of Baba Ramdev in Kota .
