The Pakistan Army on Wednesday violated the ceasefire agreement by crossing the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, triggering a strong retaliation from Indian forces. According to an Indian Army official, the Nangi Tekri Battalion under the Krishna Ghati Brigade responded decisively to the unprovoked firing from across the border.
Ceasefire violation in Krishna Ghati
"On April 1, a mine blast occurred in Krishna Ghati Sector due to Pakistan Army’s intrusion across the LoC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army. Our troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner. The situation is under control and is being closely monitored," the official said.
The Indian Army reiterated the importance of adhering to the 2021 Director Generals of Military Operations (DGsMO) agreement to maintain peace along the LoC.
Heightened security amid Kathua terrorist encounter
The ceasefire violation comes at a time when security forces are already engaged in counter-terror operations in the Panjtirthi area of Kathua, following an exchange of fire with terrorists.
A joint operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was launched after suspicious movement was detected on March 31. This led to a fresh encounter in the early hours of April 1.
"Acting on intelligence inputs, multiple surveillance ambushes were deployed in Panjtirthi, Kathua. Suspicious movement was observed on the night of March 31, leading to an exchange of fire. Search-and-destroy operations were launched at first light on April 1. Operations are in progress," stated the Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army.
Security forces have increased surveillance and are maintaining a high alert in the region. The situation continues to be closely monitored.
