Kuala Lumpur: Fifty Shades of Grey, the movie adaptation of EL James erotic novel, has been banned in Malaysian theatres. The Malaysian Film Censorship Board (LPF) chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid said the film, which was slated to premiere on February 12, was unfit for the audience.

He called the film, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, more like "pornography than a movie", reported the Star. "The board made a decision in view of the film containing scenes that are not of natural sexual content. The content is more sadistic...," Abdul Halim said.

United International Pictures, the local distributor of the film, confirmed that the film would not show in cinemas here. The film has been directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
