Digvijaya Singh did not vote, says he regrets it | Lok Sabha polls 2019 Phase 6 LIVE updates

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 6 polling began at 7 am. Fifty-nine constituencies spread over six states and Delhi will go to polls in this phase. Voting will take place for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Haryana, 8 seats each in West Bengal, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, 7 in Delhi and 4 in Jharkhand. Bhopal Congress candidate Digvijaya Singh

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 6 polling began at 7 am, in 59 constituencies across 6 states and Delhi. Voting will take place for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Haryana, 8 seats each in West Bengal, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, 7 in Delhi and 4 in Jharkhand. 

In Delhi, in all the seven seats, there is a triangular fight between BJP, Congress and AAP. Several heavyweights including former Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, singers turned politicians Manoj Tiwari and Hansraj Hans and boxer Vijender Singh are in the fray.

In Uttar Pradesh, all 14 constituencies are spread in the Purvanchal region of the state. Out of these constituencies, Lalganj and Machhlishahar are reserved for scheduled caste candidates. Congress has not fielded any candidate on Azamgarh and Ambedkar Nagar seats. 

Campaigning for this phase had ended on Friday and the counting of votes will be held on the 23rd of this month.

    Election Commission of India has released fresh figures of voter turnout. According to the commission, 59.87% voters came out to vote during 6th phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. These are figures estimated by 6 pm.

    In a shocking development, Congress leader Digvijay Singh conceded that he could not vote.

    "Yes, I could not go to vote to Rajgarh and I regret it. Next time I will register my name in Bhopal," he told media.

    BJP candidate attacked twice in West Bengal, CEO seeks report

    BJP candidate Bharati Ghosh was allegedly attacked twice by local people when the former IPS officer tried to visit polling stations in her Ghatal LokSabha constituency on Sunday when the sixth phase of polling was underway there.

    One of her security guards was injured in stone pelting in one of the two incidents of attack.

    The state CEO has sought reports from the West Midnapore district magistrate about the incidents.

    Ghosh suffered minor injuries when a group of women allegedly attacked her when she tried to take one BJP agent inside a polling booth at Keshpur area in the morning, officials said.

    Following this, bombs were hurled and stones were pelted towards the former IPS officer's convoy when she was going to visit another booth at Dogachia in Keshpur after receiving complaints of rigging there.

    Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Sunday said it was "very clear" that the BJP will face defeat in Lok Sabha polls as people are "angry and distressed" and will convey their sentiments through voting.

    Interacting with reporters after exercising her franchise, the senior party leader said, it was "very clear that the BJP government is going".

    Voting begins late at some booths in Delhi

    Voting, that was scheduled to start at 7 am, began late at some booths in the national capital Sunday. Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain said that voting started 50 minutes late at three polling booths.

    "Voting started at 7.50 am at 3 booths of Railway Jhuggi, Shakurbasti," he tweeted.

    However, there was no immediate response from the Chief Electoral Office.

    Shashi Devi, a 58-year-old resident of Mayur Vihar I, said that she and her son were made to wait for 20 minutes by officials at a polling booth.

    "My son and I came to cast our votes to avoid the heat, but after reaching the polling booth at 7 am, we were asked to wait for 20 minutes as officials were still in the process of starting polling," Devi said.

    Re-polling underway in single booth in Kamaraj Nagar segment in Puducherry

    Polling is underway in a booth in the repoll in Kamaraj Nagar Assembly segment of Puducherry Parliamentary constituency Sunday.

    The Election Commission had ordered re-polling at the booth following a complaint that officials had not cleared the mock poll votes recorded on the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine.

    The mock polling was conducted before the actual election on April 18.

    A total of 952 voters including 479 women are expected to exercise their franchise at the repoll, official sources said.

    Congress should have contested at least 12 seats in Bihar: Union Minister Shakeel Ahmad

    Former Union Minister Shakeel Ahmad, suspended by the Congress for contesting the Lok Sabha polls as an independent from Madhubani, has said the partys action against him was harsh and he contested as the candidate of the Grand Alliance was "weak" to defeat the BJP.

    He also said that the Congress, which is contesting nine of the 49 seats in Bihar, should have contested at least 12 seats in the state as part of the alliance.

    "Congress got less seats. It should have got at least 12 seats. The negotiations should have been done in a better way. It led to demoralization in Bihar Congress," Ahmad said.

    MP records 12.30% voting till 9 am

    Around 12.30 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 9 am in eight Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh. Voting for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls in the state commenced at 7 am in a peaceful manner, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) VL Kantha Rao said.

    "During mock poll conducted before the actual voting began, 30 to 40 electronic voting machines (EVMs) were changed because of some technical problems," he said.

    Polling underway for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana

    Polling began Sunday morning in ten constituencies of Haryana in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections, which will seal the fate of 223 candidates, including Union ministers Rao Inderjit Singh and Krishan Pal Gurjar.

    Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm in the 10 parliamentary constituencies, officials said.

    Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was among the early voters in Karnal.

    Haryana's Joint Chief Electoral Officer Inder Jeet said over 1.80 crore people are eligible to vote in the state. Of them, 97,16,516 are male, 83,40,173 female and 207 transgenders.

    Over one lakh of the total voters are physically challenged and special facilities have been provided for them, he said.

    Around 9.03 per cent of 1.38 crore voters exercised their franchise in the first two hours of polling in eight Lok Sabha seats of Bihar in the sixth phase
    on Sunday, election officials said.

    Polling is underway peacefully in Valmikinagar, West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Vaishali, Gopalganj, Siwan and Maharajganj with a few incidents of malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines, the officials said.

    Voting underway for 14 Lok Sabha seats in UP

    Voting was underway on Sunday for 14 parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, election officials said.

    Voting began at 7 a.m. in the constituencies of Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phulpur, Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Shravasti, Dumariyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalganj, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhlishahr and Bhadohi. Polling will end at 6 p.m.

    Chief Electoral Officer L. Venkateshwar Loo said that a total of 2.57 crore voters will decide the fate of 177 candidates in the fray in this phase.

    Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar early on Sunday travelled by Shatabdi express from Chandigarh to his hometown Karnal to cast his vote.

    "Departing from Chandigarh to Karnal for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections today," Khattar tweeted.

    Voting underway in 8 Bihar Lok Sabha seats in 6th phase

    Voting began for eight seats in the Bhojpuri-speaking north Bihar belt on Sunday amid reports of a freak incident in Sheohar where a voter was injured by a stray bullet fired from a home guard's rifle. There was also delay in polling at some booths due to EVM glitches.

    In the first hour, long queues of men and women were seen outside the booths under a summer sun as heat wave surged through the area.

    According to officials, more than 1.38 lakh voters would decide the fate of 127 candidates in Gopalganj, Siwan, Maharajganj, East Champaran, West Champaran, Valmiki Nagar, Sheohar and Vaishali constituencies.

    The Sheohar voter was seriously injured as the bullet hit him in the stomach, said a district police official. The voter fell down at the polling booth and was rushed to a hospital.

    EVM malfunction reported in Delhi

    Complaints about malfunctioning EVMs poured in from several places of the national capital on Sunday where voting is underway.

    Adarsh Gupta, a resident of Matia Mahal area, claimed that at polling booth number 84, 85 and 86, electronic voting machines were initially not working in the morning.

    Aam Aadmi Party's Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti alleged that EVMs at booths number -- 116,117 and 122 -- were not functioning.

    "EVM in booth 132, Hauzrani is showing 50 votes without anyone casting any vote in the machine n EVMs at booths 116,117, 122 in Malviya nagar not functioning," Bharti tweeted.

    However, there was no immediate reaction from the chief electoral office.

    Voting begins in West Bengal for sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls

    Amid heightened security, voting began for eight parliamentary constituencies of West Bengal in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Sunday. The polling, which started at 7 am, will continue till 6 pm.

    The eight constituencies -- Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram (ST), Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura and Bishnupur (SC) -- are spread over East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura and part of East Burdwan districts.

    In the general elections five years back, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress had won all the eight seats.
