New Delhi: Amazon, one of the leading e-commerce companies, found itself at the centre of a controversy on Saturday night after it was discovered that the website was selling doormats with pictures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses on them.

As soon as the word spread, outraged people took to Twitter to vent out the anger on the e-commerce giant for hurting religious sentiments.

The hashtag #BoycottAmazon started trending with Indians asking fellow users to boycott the app.

Things took a turn for the worse, after people realized that the website also had Islamic themed door mats for sale. The doormats being sold by retailer Rock Bull included images of Hindu Gods, Jesus and the Quran.

It even had Indian flag doormats.

And the social slamming went even further.

The angry Indians started downvoting Amazon in both iOS and Android app stores.

The outrage, reportedly, worked as Amazon started pulling down the products in question from the site.

The company even render an apology on Google Play Store when the users register their complaints.

Notably, it is not the first time that Amazon is at the receiving end of such backlash. In 2014 also, it was being noted that website was selling women’s leggings carrying images of various Hindu Gods.
