UP govt presents Rs 24,000 Supplementary Budget for financial year 2025-26

The government said the Supplementary Budget is a routine financial exercise aimed at addressing emerging needs, funding priority sectors, and ensuring that flagship programmes are not delayed due to budgetary constraints.

Mata Prasad Pandey, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, said that presenting a supplementary budget is constitutional. However, he questioned the circumstances under which it is being brought.

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya defended the Supplementary Budget. He asserted that the additional financial allocation is crucial to accelerating development across the state.

The government presented two Supplementary Budgets in the financial year 2024-25, with the first one being of Rs 12,209.93 crore. With these additions, the state's combined budget for 2024-25 stood at Rs 7,66,513.36 crore.

Last year, the government presented a Supplementary Budget of Rs 17,865.72 crore, which was 2.42 per cent of the original budget of Rs 7,36,437.71 crore

The Opposition has questioned the presentation of the Supplementary Budget. An intense political debate took place in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after the budget was presented. Opposition leaders questioned both its timing and necessity.

This budget has already been approved by the Cabinet, which was chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna presented the supplementary budget in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Presenting the Budget, Khanna said that Uttar Pradesh's economy, which had previously been underestimated, has grown under the Yogi government.
