Sensex, Nifty Today: Indian equity benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, started on a positive note on Friday, July 4, 2025, amid mixed global cues. The 30-share BSE Sensex started the session at 83,306.81, with a gain of 67.34 points and the Nifty opened at 25,428.85, with a slight gain of 23.55 points. In the last trading session, the Sensex closed at 83,239.47 and the Nifty 50 at 25,405.30. However, both the key indices faced volatile trends and fell later. The BSE benchmark quoted 13.55 points down at 83,221.65, and the Nifty traded 4.15 points lower at 25,400.40.
"Though upswings evolved as hoped, the 25588 region that we had suspected to resist, held firm, forcing a quick withdrawal in buying interest. This move has forced a retest of previous day's low, raising fears of seeing 25300, a downside objective which we had started the week with. That said, with hourly oscillators oversold, favoured view expects yet another upswing without slipping much beyond 25377, the 10-day SMA. Else, expect 25000," said Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited.
From the Sensex firms, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Bharat Electronics, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the major gainers. However, Trent, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra and Maruti were among the laggards.
In early trade, 895 stocks in the Nifty pack were trading in the green, while 315 were trading in the red. 110 stocks remained unchanged.
What did Gift Nifty indicate?
Gift Nifty, an early indicator for the Nifty 50, indicated a flat start as it opened 4 points higher at 25,564.50 against the previous close of 25,560.50.
