New Delhi: While watching TV do you sometime want to know what others are saying about popular TV programmes and celebrities? Surprisingly, for this you don't need not open your laptop or run to a cybercafé, as you can do it right on your idiot box, which can now double up as an application marketplace enabling you access content which you need.

Airtel Digital TV, the DTH service arm of Bharti Airtel, has tied-up with Bangalore-based BrizzTV to bring live tweets on TV. The feature, as advertised, works without an Internet connection and to see the tweets you only need to press a button on your remote.

It is a service that pulls tweets that feature a particular hashtag (related to popular TV programmes, celebrities, sports personalities, among others) and displays them on the user's screen. The service is available on select TV channels.

To enable and access this service the customers only have to press the green key on their Airtel Digital TV remote. At the same time customers can also send their Tweets on any TV show with the specific hashtags prompted on their TV screen and it shall be broadcast live by Airtel Digital TV.

“Twitter on Airtel Digital TV is an innovative product launched as part of our continuous efforts to enrich the lives of our customers. Given the ever increasing popularity of Twitter across the globe with over 500 million Tweets generated every day including breaking news and first reactions which trend within minutes of its occurrence, all our customers will now be a part of the convergence phenomenon along with the rest of the world," said Shashi Arora, CEO - Airtel Digital TV.

A recently US study showed that 95 per cent of the public social conversation around TV happens on Twitter.

To enable the service, BrizzTV has built an end-to-end digital media platform that connects the Internet with satellite TV system and enables sharing of Internet content directly on TV.
