Top 10 debuts at the 2013 Geneva motor show

New Delhi, March 10, 2013: The 2013 Geneva Motor Show saw plenty of world premieres and lots of flashy new metal on parade. Given that European car sales in on a decline, the show assumed importance as some of the best names in the auto industry showcased their latest creations to the public, including new flagship supercars from McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini, making their World Premieres. To give you the complete picture of the show in short, India TV Auto has put together a list of our personal top ten debuts from this past week's show.10. BMW 3 Series Gran TurismoThe new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo made its world premiere in Geneva. An entirely independent concept within the successful BMW 3 Series range, the model utilizes the sporty-dynamics of the Sedan with the practicality and versatility of the Touring. The 3-Series GT is actually larger than the 3-Series Touring as it measures 200mm longer, 81mm taller and rides on a wheelbase that has been extended by 110mm. The 3 Series GT is tuned for long-distance comfort. 9. Toyota i-Road concept The i-Road concept is a two-seat, three-wheeled electric city car that Toyota sees as the future of city driving. The i-Road comes with a pair of tandem seats in an enclosed cabin. At just 850 millmetres wide, the tiny Toyota doesn't take up more room than a scooter. While the i-Road's two front wheels are each powered by a 2kW electric motor, the trike also leans like a scooter in turns.8. 2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith The new two-door Rolls is basically a Ghost coupe. The car is powered by a V12 that puts out an impressive 624 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque mated to an eight-speed ZF "Satellite Aided" transmission. This nifty cog-swapper actually works with GPS to not only pre-select the right gear for the portion of road you're on, but for the next portion of you'll be driving on, as well.7. 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible In order to expand the global outreach of its 2014 Corvette Stingray, Chevy introduced a convertible version of the sports car at 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Competing with million-dollar Bugattis, Ferraris, and Lamborghinis, the drop-top version of the Stingray features 6.2-liter V-8 engine that gives the output of 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Chevrolet says the new Corvette's aluminum frame is 57% stiffer and 99 pounds lighter than the outgoing model's steel frame. This means the convertible version needed no extra structural bracing for rigidity.6. Alfa Romeo 4C Launch EditionThe Alfa Romeo 4C is a lightweight rear wheel drive two seater Coupé sports car, similar in size to the Alfa Romeo MiTo. The Alfa Romeo comes with a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mounted mid-ship. The engine is a version of the same lump that powers the Giulietta. It features direct fuel injection, dual continuous variable valve timing, a turbocharger and a revolutionary scavenging control system. The top speed is more than 250 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds thanks to the Alfa TCT twin clutch transmission with shift paddles at steering wheel and new Alfa DNA selector with additional ‘Race' mode.5. Porsche 911 GT3Porsche unveiled the new high performance race track version of the 911 at the Geneva Motor Show. The model features a newly-engineered boxer engine, transmission, body and chassis to create what Porsche calls the “sportiest 911” with “a highly emotional fun factor."4. McLaren P1Designed in collaboration with members of the F1 team, the P1 brings the full gamut of F1-inspired technology, with DRS-alike hybrid drive from an electric motor that is also capable of powering the P1 12miles on EV power alone. The P1 generates 600kg of downforce @ 161mph which puts it in the same ballpark as a GT3 racing car and generate 2G cornering. Power comes from an upgraded version of the 3.8 twin turbo V8 found in the MP4 12C, which delivers 737bhp alone & 916bhp in tandem with the hybrid drive electric motor.3. 2013 Pininfarina Sergio ConceptItalian styling house Pininfarina brought a concept car named after legendary designer Sergio Pininfarina, to the Geneva motor show. The two-seater "barchetta" is a one-off that is believed to be based on the Ferrari 458 Italia. The concept is 4550mm long, 1940mm wide and 1140mm tall. The two-door, two-seater has a 100-liter boot capacity and weighs approximately 1,280 kg (2,821 lbs). Power comes from a V8 4499cc engine linked to a sequential seven-speed transmission, propelling the car to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 3.4 seconds, en route to a top speed of about 199 mph (320 km/h).2. LaFerrariLaFerrari supercar, unvieled at the Geneva motor show, features a 950bhp petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain and a top speed in excess of 217mph. The supercar can accelerate from 0-62mph in less than 3sec, from 0-124mph in less than 7sec and from 0-186mph in less than 15sec. The company said the production is limited to just 499 models. On its own this engine produces 789bhp and 516lb ft of torque. Combined with the electric motor this swells to the 950bhp headline figure, as well as 664lb ft of torque. The new hypercar, which is the successor to the Enzo, features active aerodynamics, with the engineers aiming "to deliver the highest degree of aerodynamic efficiency ever achieved with any road car".1. Lamborghini Veneno Lamborghini, now an affiliate of the Volkswagen Group unveiled its own "extremely exclusive" Veneno two-seater. The new Lamborghini is among the most expensive, with a pre-tax sticker of $3.9 million, triple the cost of the Ferrari. According to the company, only three Venenos will be built, and all three are pre-sold. The car is based on Aventador underpinnings, and uses an uprated 740-hp 12-cylinder, ISR gearbox and carbon-fiber monocoque. The cabin is dripping in carbon fiber, with the monocoque visible to the passengers in the center tunnel. Although, the supercar is designed for the track, it is street legal. In terms of styling, the Veneno comes with scissors-style doors, massive rear wing, roof-mounted air scoop and "shark fin" stabilizer. Its 6.5 liter V12 engine, which is mounted behind the seats, drives all four wheels through a seven-speed transmission. The Veneno is rated at 740 horsepower, while the LaFerrari at 963 hp.
