New Delhi: Sony has started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for three Xperia devices, namely the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra.
This was announced by the company through its official blog post. However, the timing and availability of the update for the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra will vary by market and mobile carrier.
Plus, Sony has also announced the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z will be rolled out in mid-Q2 2014. The company also revealed its plans to roll out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 soon.
Since the update process happens in phases, it will take users as long as two weeks to see the updates.
The changelog includes performance and UI optimisation; an enhanced email app (not Gmail), a “Take screenshot” entry in the long-press Power menu, a new answering machine option added in the call menu, and tweaked Status Bar and intuitive and customizable Quick Settings.
Owners of the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra can expect speed and performance improvement after the update. The new version offers users quickly access customisation settings for the Quick Settings page and Status bar. Sony has also added more Xperia themes and claims to have improved native apps including MyXperia, Smart Connect, TrackID, Smart Social, among others.
The update will also bring along Sony Entertainment Network and PlayMemories cloud service integration for the WALKMAN, Album, and Movies app.
