Microsoft releases '3D Builder,' a 3D printing app for Windows 8.1

New Delhi: Microsoft has released its 3D Builder app, which allows Windows 8.1 users to print 3D objects.The app offers a great way for amateurs to start doing 3D printing, provided that they 1) have

Given that most of us have never programmed a 3D printer before, Microsoft has added the ability to combine different presets into one larger object. Besides, there's also support for importing 3D object files made elsewhere.





Microsoft says it is partnering with printer manufacturers including 3D Systems, Autodesk, Dassault Systemes, MakerBot, netfabb, Materialise, Stratasys, and Tiertime (PP3DP). But out of them only 3D Systems, MakerBot, and TierTime will have Windows 8.1 before the holidays.


 

If you don't know though, Windows 8.1 was designed to support 3D printing.

Overall, it all seems to be an aggressive move from Windows to jump onto 3D printing bandwagon. If the technology advances far enough as the price falls quickly enough, this could be a winning move from Microsoft in the coming years.
