Top 11 cars on display at Delhi Auto Expo 2014

New Delhi: All eyes are on the 12th edition of the Auto Expo, jointly organized by CII, SIAM and ACMA, accredited by OICA, which is expected to infuse some positive sentiment into the Indian auto industry which has seen decline in sales over the past few quarters. The Motor Show will take place at the new venue called the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida from February 7-11. Organisers of the show believe that this time the event will be at par with global standards and without chaos and crowd mismanagement that had marred previous shows. The overall display space this year is 64,000 sq mt as against 44,000 sq mt in the last edition.As many as 70 new vehicles will be unveiled at the show, with 26 global unveilings, of which 15 are cars. Alongside, there will be a special theme pavilion to promote hybrid and electric mobility. From entry-level cars to luxury sedans and electric and hybrid concept cars, the Auto Expo will serve as a good platform for auto makers to showcase their capabilities. Take a look at some of the hottest car unveilings:Maruti Suzuki Celerio Maruti Suzuki has announced that bookings for the Celerio are open. The vehicle will be launched at the 2014 Auto Expo. The Celerio comes with an 'EZ Drive' (an Automated Manual Transmission) system, which is essentially a simple manual transmission that has been robotized. It allows drivers to change manual gears without using the clutch. It offers comfort of use and delivers a reduction in fuel consumption. Unlike traditional automatic transmission, there is no torque convertor. Celerio uses the same motor which propels the Wagon R but sees some changes. The 1.0-litre K10B motor (now called K-Next) gets drive-by-wire technology (instead of a mechanical linkage), reduced friction (thanks to redesigned valve springs), high pressure injectors and low viscosity engine oil. The EZ Drive does make driving convenient but you may feel the clutch being activated most of the time. The company claims a fuel efficiency of 23.1 km/l which is quite impressive. The Celerio will be competing against the Nissan Micra, Honda Brio and Hyundai i10, among others, when it goes on sale in India.Datsun Go Datsun brand is back after almost three decades and will stage the world premiere of its hatchback Datsun Go at Auto Expo 2014. The hatchback would be manufactured in India under the Nissan-Renault jointly created production plant at Chennai. Nissan plans to manufacture approx 10 models by 2016 including this Datsun's hatchback in its Chennai plant. Reports suggest that the Datsun Go will be based on the Nissan V platform like the Nissan Micra. The armed engine in this hatchback would be a 1200cc, 1.2 liter, straight-three petrol engine by developing the max power of 68bhp and peak torque of 140Nm. The equipment of diesel fuel in this Datsun Go is still not confirmed yet. The gear lever is dashboard-mounted and Datsun have also provided a mobile dock holder. The engine would be mated with 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. The dimensions of this new five seater hatchback are 3785mm x 1635mm x 1485mm along with the expected wheelbase of 2450mm. The model is likely to be priced under Rs 4 lakh.Honda new Jazz Honda Cars India will unveil its much-awaited new generation Honda Jazz hatchback at the 2014 Auto Expo. For the first time, the Jazz hatchback is being offered in both petrol and diesel guise. The new model looks futuristic and aggressive through its cab forward design with the front featuring a new bonnet with two prominent strikes and thick horizontal chrome slat. The side profile of the car features a crisp sewage line which runs across the car. The rear looks more like the CR-V SUV. Its back bumper gets the matte black vents on both the edges. The new Jazz hatchback comes with a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel. While the petrol version delivers a maximum power output of 87bhp, the diesel variant churns 98bhp of top power. The i-VTEC engine is mated to a five-speed manual and a five-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel engine is paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. The model competes against the likes of Maruti Swift, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i20, and Fiat Punto. Volkswagen Taigun Volkswagen will bring the Taigun SUV to the Auto Expo 2014 in India. The Taigun concept is based on a stretched version of VW's New Small Family platform, also used by the Up hatchback, which debuted at the Sao Paolo International Motor Show in 2012. The Taigun has been designed to appeal to Indian commuters through its bold and clean styling. The concept shown in Sao Paulo came with a 108bhp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine and this motor could be a possibility for India. Reports suggest that the SUV is likely to be powered with a 1.0 litre three cylinder TSI petrol engine that is capable of generating around 110 PS at the peak along with 175 NM of torque. There is no information about the transmission and gear box Volkswagen is going to use. It may be either mated to a 6-speed manual and/or the DSG automatic. Internationally, the SUV doesn't have a diesel option yet, but expect Volkswagen to incorporate a diesel engine to meet the Indian market demand. The company claims the 0-100kmph time for the 985kg Taigun as 9.2 second, while top speed is an impressive 185kmph. With the use of a turbocharger and direct injection, the Taigun 1.0TSI claims a fuel efficiency of 21kmpl. On the styling front, the Taigun looks bright and youthful. The Taigun has rugged side panels, roof rails and underbody protection. Audi A3 sedan Audi will showcase its A3 sedan at the auto expo. The A3 sedan will be launched sometime later this year so the Expo will be a good platform for Audi to display the car to the Indian audience. The A3 sedan will rival the Mercedes CLA class sedan that slots under the C-Class. The upcoming car looks much like a slightly shrunken A4. It is likely to come with a 1.8-litre TFSI petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel motor in India. You can also expect the A3 sedan with the usual S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox as until recently, all Audi sold in India were automatics. BMW 3 Series GT BMW India will roll out its much anticipated luxury saloon, BMW 3 Series GT, at the Auto Expo. It made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show'13. The saloon has been positioned between 3 Series and 5 Series models existing in the lineup in India. The all-new GT 3 Series comes with 2-liter diesel engine producing 184bhp, while the petrol variant gets 2.0-liter motor that is capable of churning 245bhp of power output. The engines are combined with eight-speed automatic transmission. The model comes with 520-liters of boot capacity, and with the split fold rear seats down the boot space enhances upto 1600-liters. The new GT Series runs over flat tyres instead of full-sized spare wheel. In terms of design, the model has received redesigned headlamps, low positioned bumper and several others. The new GT 3 Series also features air curtains situated under the front wheels and air breathers behind the front wheel, both together helps in better air ventilation mainly from the wheel arches. It also sports an active rear wing that operates when the car reaches at 100kmph of speed. Hyundai new Santa Fe The model features Hyundai's storm edge design language and is expected to cost Rs 23 lakh. The car will be powered by the same 2.2 litre diesel engine that powers the current model. However, the engine will be given a few updates to increase refinement, fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. The model will compete against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ssangyong Rexton and Ford Endeavour adversary. Hyundai i20 WRC car Hyundai will showcase the i20 WRC at the Expo 2014 as a part of a brand building excercise. The i20 WRC is a World Rally Car made by Hyundai to take part in the 2014 World Rally Championship. Since WRC regulations call for cars measuring no more than 12.8 feet in length and powered by 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines, so the i20 fits the bill perfectly. Mercedes-Benz GLA Mercedes-Benz India will be bringing its Concept GLA-Class in India at the Auto Expo. The 2014 GLA-Class is based on the same platform, as the A-Class, B-Class and GLA-Class. The GLA-Class too will be available with the same engine options as the A-Class, B-Class and CLA-Class and compete against the likes of the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1.Honda Mobilio Honda will launch its much-anticipated Honda Mobilio at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The vehicle was first unveiled at the 2013 Indonesian Motor Show and received an overwhelming response from the prospective buyers. It will be made available in both petrol and diesel guise. Based on the versatile Brio platform, the MPV will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Nissan Evalia and Chevrolet Enjoy. Honda Mobilio carries over the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 117bhp and the popular 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that develops 98bhp of top power. The front facade of the Mobilio comes with a thick horizontal slat chrome grille and round fog lamps. It gets an aggressive hood and its fog lamps come fitted in a matte black casing. Audi R18 e-tron Quattro German car-maker Audi will showcase its R18 e-tron Quattro during the 2014 Auto Expo. Under the hood is a new V6 TDI diesel engine. The new R18 e-Tron Quattro then utilises two hybrid systems. One of those systems dubbed Energy Recovery System Heat (ERS-H) stores energy converted from heat while the second system is a more traditional KERS system which Audi calls ERS-K. This system stores energy created under braking and the power from these two hybrids is then stored in an improved flywheel energy storage system. The 2014 model is said to consume 30 per cent less fuel than previous version.
