New telecom entrant Reliance Jio’s offer to its customers to sign up for Prime plans to avail its ongoing promotional Happy New Year freebies ends today.

So far, out of 10 crore-plus subscribers, nearly 5 crore have signed up for its Prime membership by paying a one-time charge of Rs 99 and buying cheap data packs.

Last month, Jio had announced Prime membership plan that can be taken by paying a one-time fee of Rs 99.

Once a customer pays Rs 99 to become its Prime member, data packs for him/her will be available for as low as Rs 149 per month. Voice calls, however, will remain free.

User can subscribe to Jio Prime membership using MyJio app, Jio site or at any Jio Store.

Jio Prime membership is available to both pre-paid and post-paid users.

For post-paid users there are only three recharge plans -- Rs 303, Rs 499 and Rs 999.

A survey conducted by Bank of America Merrill Lynch had earlier this month noted that at least 84 per cent of the current Jio users are expected to subscribe to its Prime membership.

"We surveyed 1,000 Jio users online to gauge trends. With all the caveats that accompany surveys in a country as large as India, the results are stark: 84 per cent of Jio users we surveyed suggest they will subscribe to the Prime offer," the survey said.

"70 per cent of these prefer the Rs 303 per month plan," it added.

Newcomer Jio that started operations in September 2016, has crossed the 10 crore subscribers mark.
