India's leading passenger vehicle manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) today unveiled the Ignis hatchback at an introductory price of Rs 4.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
It’s been a long wait as the concept was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Ignis is Maruti’s first launch in 2017 and is the third to join the line up that is to be sold through the brand's premium Nexa dealership.
Kenichi Ayukawa, managing director, MSIL said, “NEXA, our premium automotive retail channel, now has an offering for the millennials -- IGNIS. It combines unconventional design, seamless smartphone experience with AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay, technological supremacy with AGS on petrol and diesel, advanced safety features as standard and personalization options, making it unique on every parameter. Ignis at NEXA will help us expand our presence in the premium compact segment.”
Both the petrol and diesel variants of the Ignis are available in automatic transmission.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine is tuned to deliver 83PS of power at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4,200rpm. On the other hand, the 1.3-litre diesel mill produces 75PS at 4,000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.
For both the engine options, Ignis is being offered with an AMT gearbox (Automated Manual Transmission).
As indicated by the MSIL claims, the vehicle asserts a productivity figure of 20.89kmpl for the petrol and 26.80kmpl for the diesel.
The Ignis is available in single and dual tone colour options and dual tone colours have three options, namely Uptown red with Midnight black, tinsel Blue with Midnight black and Tinsel blue with Pearl arctic black.
The features that make it a premium offering include 'Smart Play' touchscreen infotainment system with navigation that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and will come with MirrorLink Technology.
In terms of its safety features, the company has given dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and ISOFIX child seat mounts come as standard across all trim levels.
