New Delhi: In a move aimed at making the process of verification convenient and hassle-free, tech giant Google has introduced a new two-step verification process called Prompt.

Instead of the earlier system where users had to sign in via a security key or a verification code that was sent to their phones, users will now get a prompt that a sign-in is being attempted. The prompt will also alert users about the city and phone that the login is being attempted from. Users can then approve the attempt or deny it.

The update will be available to all the Android users in the next three days via an update to Google Play Services. On the other hand, iOS users will need to have the Google Search app installed in order to use Google Prompt.

Several technology giants like Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Facebook have always advised the use of this two-step verification for additional security of accounts. For those who don't use two-step verification can just go to 'My Account' section and then to Sign-in & Security. Sign in to Google and follow the 2-Step Verification. Users will get to choose which option they would prefer for the second step of the verification process.

Currently, users cannot have both security keys and Google Prompt working at the same time. Also, the Google Prompt feature will need an active data connection.
