He was heading to Baramati for a public rally ahead of the upcoming Zilla Parishad Elections. Pawar, 66, the NCP leader, was on board a Lear Jet 45 aircraft, registration VT-SSK, which was flying from Mumbai to Baramati.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis expresse his grief at the passing away of his ally and announced three days of state mourning as well. Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar and Ajinkya Rahane led the cricketers' reaction to the tragic incident as they offered condolences on Ajit Pawar's untimely demise.
Maharashtra has lost a dedicated leader, says Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar stated that Maharashtra lost a dedicated leader in Ajit Pawar today as he paid condolences to the political leader's family and friends. "Very sad to learn about the untimely demise of Shri Ajit Pawar ji. Maharashtra has lost a dedicated leader who worked for the people, across the state. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti," Sachin wrote on X.
Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin was shaken after knowing about the incident and wrote, "Deeply shaken by the news of Mr. Ajit Pawar’s plane crash. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find the strength and courage to endure this profound loss."
Meanwhile, former India cricketer Yusuf Pathan who is also a politician now also paid condolences on the untimely demise of Ajit Pawar and also demanded proper investigation into this crash. "Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Ajit Pawar in the tragic plane crash. He was a dedicated leader who served the state with utmost commitment and integrity. His contributions to public service and the development of the state will always be remembered. In this moment of profound grief, my thoughts and prayers are with his family, followers, and the people of the state. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace. There should be a proper investigation into this crash," he wrote.
