New Delhi:

The security forces have recovered two live cartridges from the blast site near the Red Fort in New Delhi, said officials on Monday. The cartridges were recovered by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team a day after the blast that claimed 12 lives and injured dozens others.

The FSL team has also collected samples of two types of explosives from the site. According to officials, the first sample appears to be similar to ammonium nitrate. However, the second explosive is even more lethal than ammonium nitrate, and it is currently under examination, they added.

Delhi blast was not a suicide attack

Sources have also informed that the blast near the Red Fort on Monday was not a suicide attack and the suspect "triggered an explosion in panic". They further informed that initial investigation suggest the bomb was not fully developed, which limited its impact.

Security agencies have also not recovered any shrapnel or projectiles from the blast site, and the explosion did not create a crater, sources said, adding that the improvised explosive device (IED) was not equipped to cause heavy casualties.

Security tightened across capital

The security has now been tightened across the national capital and the agencies are focusing on how a sophisticated "white-collar" terror module managed to acquire and store such a huge quantity of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, officials said.

They are also conducting across the city-state and have detained many. The Delhi Police has also registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act under sections which deal with punishment and conspiracy of a terror attack.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has chaired two high level meeting to review the situation in the national capital. Shah, who visited the blast site on Monday night, has also said that the agencies are probing all angles in the case.
