The terrorists were trained in Alpha 3 camp in Athmuqam area by 28 Baluch of Pakistan Army, the sources added.
The area has been cordoned off and a search is on for the militants, the police said, adding no casualties have been reported so far.
"We heard a huge blast at the first gate of the ministry which is located near Charahi Shaheed Square," eyewitness Farhad Mohammadi said.
Sharif has been facing ire from all quarters for his admission on the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, which have prompted the Pakistani top authorities to hold a high-level ‘national security’ meeting today.
Some 166 people were killed in the attack carried out by 10 LeT men. Nine of the attackers were killed by police while lone survivor Ajmal Kasab was caught and hanged after handed down death sentence.
The assailant, aged between 20-22 years, shot at the interior minister on his right shoulder as he was sitting in his vehicle.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Tabela Chattabal in Safakadal following inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
Immediately after hearing gunshots, the security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in the area.
Militants fired upon Kifayat Mir, a resident of Shopian, near Pinjoora area of the district, a police official said.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been suspended in Kulgam and Anantnag districts to avoid any untoward incident. Train services on Srinagar-Banihal route have also been suspended as a precautionary measure.
In his tweet yesterday, Afridi said that the situation in ‘Indian occupied Kashmir’ was appalling and worrisome, and urged the United Nations to stop the bloodshed.
Police said militants fired from close range at SPO Muhammad Ashraf in Muran Chowk, injuring him critically.
Afghanistan has witnessed some of the worst terrorist attacks killing scores of people. It has blamed Pakistan-based terror groups such as the Haqqani Network and the Afghan Taliban for these attacks.
Giving details of the incident, a police spokesman said that the encounter broke out in the Halmatpora area, at least 8 kms from the Line of Control (LoC), after a police party intercepted a group of militants.
The arrested accused, who themselves were illegally staying in India, had provided shelter to the ABT members.
Replying to a written question, Rijiju said there were 406 cases of infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir in 2017 in which 59 terrorists were killed.
