Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh informed that the voter turnout in Delhi was 62.59%, which is about 2% more than last Lok Sabha elections.
The Election Commission of Indian (ECI) has approved the appointment of Sushil Kumar Lohani as the next Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, an official said on Friday.
Singh is presently Secretary to the territorial government. The Election Commission has sent a communication to Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar, informing him that Shurbir Singh has been appointed as the next CEO.
All seven Lok Sabha constituencies in the national capital will vote on May 12 and there are over 1.43 crore voters in the city. A silence period of 48 hours kicked in from 6 pm Friday and will last till 6 pm on Sunday.
During the rally Sunday, Mayawati said the Congress was busy dividing the votes and cautioned the gathering to guard against any such attempt.
"We are writing to (the state) government to take their view on this (withdrawal of security and accommodation to Congress leaders and its chief in Jammu and Kashmir)," Shailendra Kumar, the CEO, told PTI on Wednesday.
Firm action would be taken against those misusing form-7 to seek removal of names of eligible voters, CEO Gopal Krishna Dwivedi said.
The order came after a high-level Election Commission team held meetings last week, including with the Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee (MNCC), which had been spearheading the state-wide protests for Shashank's removal and reinstatement of the ousted Principal Secretary (Home).
Addressing a meeting during the state-level cVIGIL app training exercise for election officers, Kumar said citizens with the application can click a picture or record a video of upto two minutes' of the scene of MCC violations.
