Chinese, Ukrainian women triumph in Wrestling World Championships

Budapest:  China's Zhang Fengliu won the 72kg women's freestyle at the 2013 Wrestling World Championships Friday in Budapest, while Ukraine's Alina Stadnik-Makhynia won the women's 67kg event, to end the freestyle championships.





Zhang beat Olympic champion Natalia Vorobeva of Russia in the final, while Adeline Gray of the USA and Burmaa Ochirbat of Mongolia shared bronze, Xinhua reported.

"I believed I could win. I managed to find the winning method in the last seconds. I have to admit that I was very very lucky in the end." Zhang said.

In women's 67kg, Stadnik-Makhynia beat Stacie Anaka of Canada for the title. Nasanburmaa Ochirbat of Mongolia and Sara Dosho of Japan shared bronze.

"I am really satisfied, this is my third gold medal in the world championships in my career. " Stadnik-Makhynia said. She added that she is eyeing on more medals in world major events, including the Olympics.

In the first Greco-Roman meet of the championships, Won Chol Yun of the People's Republic of Korea took gold in the 55kg meet by beating Gyujin Choi of South Korea. Peter Modos of Hungary and Roman Amoyan of Armenia shared bronze.

"I am extremely happy! This the best result of my career, I have had bronze medal in the Asian Championships and a fifth place once in the world championships. " Won Chol Yun said.

The Wrestling World Championships continue Saturday with the 60kg, 84kg and 96kg Greco-Roman meets.
