Punjab Kings set a new IPL record against CSK, reaching 50 runs in just 3.2 overs, which is the fastest ever against the five-time champions. Priyansh Arya’s 11-ball 39 and Prabhsimran Singh’s aggression dismantled Chennai’s bowlers in a relentless powerplay charge.

Chasing 210 runs, Punjab Kings completed 50 in just 3.2 overs. It is the fastest by a team against Chennai Super Kings in IPL history. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh wreaked havoc in the powerplay, helping Punjab dominate the proceedings.

In the first over, Khaleel Ahmed conceded 14 runs, while Matt Henry leaked 20 in the second. Returning back to action, Khaleel actually bowled a brilliant third over, conceding only nine runs. However, Anshul Kamboj failed to keep up with the momentum as Prabhsimran hit back-to-back boundaries to start the fourth over and with that, Punjab completed 50 runs.

In the meantime, Priyansh showed no signs of mercy as he played a blistering knock of 39 runs off 11 balls, setting the tone of the game. After he departed, Prabhsimran took care of the business, adding 43 runs. Cooper Connolly, who was adjudged the Player of the Match in Punjab’s last game, kept up with the momentum, scoring 36 runs off 22 balls. With that, Punjab are off to a great start as captain Shreyas Iyer would be happy with the start and expects to finish things off.

CSK improve batting performance

In the opening game against Rajasthan Royals, CSK struggled heavily with the bat. Returning to home at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the five-time champions produced a much better show as Ayush Mhatre made 73 runs off 43 balls. Shivam Dube added unbeaten 45 runs off 27 balls, while Sarfaraz Khan wreaked havoc, making 32 runs off 12 balls. Courtesy of their heavyweight show, CSK posted 209 runs on the board in the first innings.

Despite the showing, there are several concerns that the team management needs to address. On top of the list is Sanju Samson’s form. The India opener has struggled to reach even a double-digit figure in the first two games, while captain Ruturaj Gaikwad too failed to establish his authority in the middle. The bowling unit needs to improve massively as well.
