Abhay Singh Chautala

Abhay Singh Chautala is the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader and former Leader of the Opposition in the Haryana Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019. Chautala is the son of Om Prakash Chautala and the grandson of Devi Lal. Abhay Singh Chautala won the Ellenabad Assembly constituency in a 2010 bypoll, following the arrest of his father, by defeating Congress candidate Bharat Singh Beniwal. Chautala retained the seat in 2014 by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Pawan Beniwal with a margin of 11,539 votes. He again won it in 2019 by defeating Pawan Beniwal again with a margin of 11,922 votes. Chautala won the Ellenanbd seat yet again in a bypoll in 2021 by defeating BJP's Gobind Kanda. He is again contesting from the Ellenabad constituency in the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls against the BJP's Amir Chand Talwara, Congress candidate Bharat Singh Beniwal, and Jannayak Janta Party's (JJP) Anjani Ladha. Chautala lost the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency twice in 2004 and 2024. In the 2004 polls, Congress candidate Naveen Jindal defeated Chautala by 1,60,190 votes. Chautala was relegated to third place with just 6.53% of the votes in the 2024 polls. Chautala also served as the president of the Boxing Federation of India and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
