New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit today confirmed that she would not be contesting upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi as people didn't want her back.

Speaking to a news channel, Dikshit said, “I have made it clear that I will not be contesting elections. I got response from the people of Delhi before. They said, you have changed the face of Delhi but now its time for you to go. Delhi had changed over 15 years but somewhere people had decided that they wanted a change in leadership.”

In the previous Assembly elections, Sheila Dikshit was defeated by Arvind Kejriwal by a margin of 25,864 votes.

“I have no keen interest in contesting elections and frankly I haven't been asked by the party”, Dikshit said.

”But I will support the Congress party and contribute in whatever way I can,” she added.

Answering a question on AAP and its leader Arvind Kejriwal, Shiela Dikshit said,“Kejriwal is responsible for political turbulence in Delhi. AAP wanted support, we gave them. But they couldn't work effectively”.

On Congress' future prospects in Delhi, she said that BJP and AAP had started their campaigns whereas Congress was yet to begin. She admitted that the party had learnt a lesson from the debacle in last polls. Delhi has changed in the past 15 years but the Congress party never claims to take individual credit. Development is achieved through collective effort.
