Yeddyurappa is a very influential leader of Lingayat community in the state and his party KJP had cornered around 10 percent of votes in last assembly elections that cost BJP very dearly and paved the way for the spectacular Comeback of Congress in the state.
There are a few leaders in both BJP and KJP who are opposing the merger plans because they fear they would lose their importance in case the merger takes place.
But with both Yeddy and Modi looking to have made up their minds, the merger looks only a matter of time now.
