New Delhi: In what could turn into a major embarrassment for Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law Aparna Bisht Yadav has lambasted Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for his intolerance remark.

Criticising the actor for saying that his wife Kiran Rao had suggested leaving India in the face of rising intolerance, wife of Mulayam's younger son Prateek Yadav said that Aamir can only play roles of patriots in films but could teach patriotism to his wife.

She wrote on her Facebook, “It has now been proved that Aamir Khan is just an actor who even after playing patriotic characters in films like ‘Rang De Basanti' and ‘Mangal Pandey' could not teach patriotism to his wife. It is our fault that we expected too much from you. Jai Hind Jai Bharat...!!”

Interestingly, Aparna's father in law Mulayam Singh Yadav had himself backed Aamir.

Talking to reporters today the Samajwadi Party supremo said, “Maybe he felt hurt over something and said it. Everyone has a right to voice their opinions.”

“He is such a big star. The government should talk to him and understand what he is feeling," he added

Earlier today, Mulayam's brother and cabinet minister in UP government Shivpal Singh Yadav attacked BJP of indulging in "fascist and discriminative" politics while defending Aamir for his statement.

Just a few weeks ago, Aparna had spoken on beef issue and had said that eating cow meat is not justified.

“Cow is like our mother and eating its meat is not justified. Those who fuel tension among the poor in the name of cow slaughter are those elite who themselves consume beef,”  she had said.

Aparna describes herself as a social worker and a classical singer.
