India TV-C Voter Survey, Modi all set for a third term

New Delhi, Oct 6: Gujarat Chief Minister is all set to romp home in Gujarat for the third consecutive time, according to an opinion poll conducted by India TV in association with C-voter. The opinion poll predicts a comfortable majority for the BJP in Gujarat assembly with a tally of 114 seats while the Congress is expected to be restricted to 63 seats. Keshubhai Patel's Gujarat Parivartan Party is not going to hurt BJP's chances and will get a maximum of 2 seats, according to the opinion poll. Others are expected to get 3 seats. The opinion poll suggests that the BJP will get 3 seats less than 2007 when it had won 117 seats. On the other hand Congress is expected to gain 4 more seats compared to last time when it had 59 seats. In terms of vote percentage, BJP is expected to lose 2 percent votes while Congress is expected to gain 1 percent votes. Keshubhai's GPP is expected to make debut with 3 percent of votes while others will get a total of 11 percent which will be a gain of 2 percent compared to last time.Another interesting outcome of the opinion poll was the emergence of Narendra Modi as the front runner in PM race. According to the survey, Modi has left both Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi far behind in the PM race. 24.9 percent of those who took part in the survey preferred Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister while only 10.4 percent preferred Manmohan Singh. 9.2 percent preferred Rahul Gandhi while 27.3 percent had no opinion on who should be next PM. The opinion poll also gauged the mood of the nation and tried to figure out how the country will vote in case of snap poll. According to the opinion poll, UPA constituents are expected to lose seats while NDA constituents are expected to improve their tallies. But the steep decline of UPA is not matched by the gains of NDA. Among UPA constituents, Congress is expected to suffer major losses. The party is expected to lose 89 sitting seats. From strength of 206 seats in present Lok Sabha, they are expected to go down to 117 seats. Similarly, DMK will suffer a loss of 16 seats and is expected to win 2 seats only compared to the present 18 seats they have in Lok Sabha. NCP is also expected to lose three seats and their tally will go down to 6 from 9. Other allies of Congress are expected to gain slightly as their strength will go up from 9 to 10. In case of NDA, all major NDA constituent is expected to improve its tally. But what is noticeable is that NDA has failed to gain in same proportion with which UPA has declined. BJP is expected to improve its tally from 116 to 142, a gain of 26 seats. Nitish Kumar's JD(U) is expected to retain its 20 Lok Sabha seats. Shiv Sena will get two additional seat and will improve its tally from 11 to 13. Shiromani Akali dal is also expected to get one more seat, improving its tally from 4 to 5. Collectively, UPA will lose strength from 247 to 138 seats while NDA will gain strength from 157 to 196 seats. It means that UPA will lose a total of 109 seats but the NDA will gain only 39 seats. The remaining 70 seats, that the UPA would lose, will go to to other non-Congress and non-BJP fronts and smaller parties. The opinion poll also throws light on expected results in different states. In UP, both SP and BSP are expected to improve their tallies. While SP's tally is expected to go up from 23 to 26, BSP will also improve its tally from 20 to 28. BJP is also expected to improve its tally from 10 to 14. Ajit Singh's RLD is expected to lose two seats and their strength will go down from 5 to 3 seats. In MP, BJP is expected to gain 2 seats while Congress is expected to gain 2 seats. It means BJP's tally will go up from 16 to 18 while Congress tally will go down from 12 to 10. Similarly, In Maharashtra, Congress-NCP is expected to lose 5 seats while BJP-Shiv Sena combine is expected to gain 3 seats. MNS is expected to make its debut in parliament with 2 Lok Sabha seats. In Bihar, Nitish Kumar's JD(U) is expected to retain its 20 seats while BJP is in danger of losing one seat from its existing tally of 12. Lalu Prasad's RJD is expected to improve its tally by 2 seats. They are expected to get 6 seats in place of the 4 seats they have in this parliament.
