Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Sunday  described it as a private limited company where, he said, the post of the party head was reserved for the Gandhi family.

"Manmohan Singh can become the Prime Minister and P Chidambaram the Home Minister, but they can never dream of becoming the party chief even in their wildest dream," he said.

"In the Congress, the post of the party president is reserved for the Gandhi family," Gadkari told a rally of party workers on his maiden visit to Uttar Pradesh after becoming the BJP chief.  "In the Congress, no one can question Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. It is an army of helpless people and is a private limited company," he said.

Gadkari also came down heavily on the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre alleging its wrong policies and financial mismanagement were responsible for the price spiral. Accusing it of failing to tackle the naxal problem, he said "how can the Congress combat naxalites, when it took their help in Andhra Pradesh polls."

Gadkari alleged the UPA government had compromised with the external and internal security of the country under the US pressure. "This government has succumbed to the US pressure and did not resist even once the Chinese incursions," he said. Even after the Mumbai terror attack, the government initiated talks with Pakistan under the American pressure, the BJP chief said.

"After 26/11, the Prime Minister announced there will be no talks with Pakistan unless perpetrators are brought to book, but it failed to stick to its stand," he said.

Attacking the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh, he said it was surprising it was erecting statues of living persons.

"I don't understand why living people erect their statues. Probably, they are confident no one will erect their statues after they are dead," he said. PTI
